Our Interior Basement Waterproofing Process

The first step in a window well repair is excavation. We manually excavate the soil to the required dimensions until we reach the weeping tile system at the footings. Then, we check the weeping tile and replace it if necessary.

We repair any cracks in the exposed foundation wall and apply a layer of primer to the exposed walls after thoroughly cleaning them with a wire brush. We then use a rubberized membrane, a fiberglass mesh layer, and another layer of rubberized membrane.

A layer of plastic is then applied, followed by a drainage board installation over the plastic layer. This helps to drain ground water towards the weeping tile system and protects soil backfilling.

The next step is to install a fresh 4-inch vertical drain from the weeping tile to the bottom ledge of the window well opening (at grade level). This vertical drain is vital to draining the window well during heavy rains.

We installed the window well in the pit and fastened it to the foundation walls. Then, the window well is appropriately installed and tightly attached to the foundation walls.

We then put around 8″ inches of ¾” clear gravel on top of the 4” vertical drain, and the exterior of the window wells are backfilled with the native soil. We then power tamp to ensure the natural grading is recovered.

We had a leak from two sources in our furnace room, that occurred after a moderate to heavy rainfall. We hired GJ Macrae to excavate by the outside wall, repair the cracks and protect the wall with a membrane and mesh. Part of the trench had to be dug by hand, due to a gas line, and part could be done by machine. The GJ Macrae team were all very skilled and professional, and completed the job in three days. Now the trench has been refilled with the earth and gravel and it will take some time for the ground to settle. We have had a few heavy rains since the job was completed, and our basement is now completely dry! We highly recommend GJ Macrae!

The process of outside basement waterproofing (or exterior basement waterproofing) is as follows: - First, we lay out tarps and excavate to the footings of the basement by hand - Next, we clean the concrete foundation wall and repair any masonry defects in the wall (cracks, tie rod holes, voids) etc. - Then we prime the concrete foundation wall and apply a rubberized membrane with fiberglass mesh. Another layer of rubberized membrane is then applied. - The final layer of the membrane is Platon drainage board. This is installed with expansive concrete anchors and a new weeping tile system. - Gravel is then installed on top of the new weeping tile system, and the excavation is backfilled and cleaned up! Sonotube foundation reinforcements are a process of fixing concrete foundations and structures made of circular tubes filled with concrete (sonotubes). This process involves digging and exposing the existing concrete sonotubes, installing shoring supports to hold up the foundation and removing the existing circular concrete supports. Then, new oversized sonotubes are installed and poured with new footings combined with a metal saddle bracket that connect directly to the structure. Once the new sonotubes cure, the shoring is removed and the soil is backfilled. Reinforcing a concrete foundation wall with carbon fiber is strengthening and stabilizing a cracked or bowed wall due to soil pressure, water damage, or structural failure. Carbon fiber is a strong and lightweight material that can resist tension and compression forces. Depending on the type and extent of the damage, it can be applied to the wall in the form of straps, sheets, or rods. The process involves the following steps: - Clean and prepare the wall surface by removing paint, dirt, or debris. Use a grinder or a wire brush to create a rough texture for better adhesion. - Measure and mark the layout of the carbon fiber reinforcement according to the design specifications. The reinforcement should follow the direction of the stress and cover the entire length of the crack or bow. - Cut the carbon fiber material to the required size and shape using scissors or a utility knife. Be careful not to damage or fray the fibers. - Using a roller or brush, apply an epoxy resin to the wall surface. This will act as glue and a protective coating for the carbon fiber material. - Press the carbon fiber material onto the wall surface and smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles. Make sure there are no gaps or overlaps between the pieces of fabric. - Apply another layer of epoxy resin over the carbon fiber material to seal it and create a smooth finish. Allow the epoxy resin to cure completely before applying any load or stress on the wall. Inside basement waterproofing is a method of preventing water damage, water leaks and mold growth in your basement by sealing and coating the interior walls and floors! It involves the following steps: - Identify the source and location of the moisture problem.
