Are you considering having your waterproofing system updated or upgraded? There are many things to know about the options that you have when you decide to do this. This blog will introduce some of the interior and exterior waterproofing methods and explain the difference between the two types of waterproofing!
Interior Waterproofing Options
If you are considering interior basement waterproofing, here are some of the options.
Sump Pump
A Sump Pump is a great way to keep water out of your basement! The Sump Pump will be installed in a Sump Pit in the lowest part of your basement. This system works hand and hand with the weeping tile system. If there is too much water build up for the weeping tile system to handle, the Sump Pump will help ensure the water is redirected away from the home’s foundation.
Weeping Tile
There is also an option for installing a weeping tile system on the interior of the basement foundation wall. This system works to manage water that has already entered the foundation wall.
Exterior Waterproofing Options
Weeping Tile
A weeping tile is a long plastic pipe that has slits in it. These slits allow water to enter the pipe and travel away from the foundation wall. A weeping tile system carries water away from your home. This stops the hydrostatic pressure from building up which keeps your home from sustaining cracks and subsequently leaks!
Exterior Barrier
When waterproofing a basement foundation wall, the area surrounding the home must first be excavated. Once this is complete, the experts will clean the wall and then place a hydraulic cement layer over the wall to fill any cracks. Hydroshield rubberized membrane will then be applied, followed by a layer of fiberglass mesh. This combination will not only fix any cracks, but it will also prevent your basement from future cracks and leaks!
Exterior vs Interior Waterproofing
It is important to note that even though there are interior waterproofing solutions and methods, the only way to ensure that your basement stays dry is to have the exterior of your home waterproofed. Most basement leaks are caused by cracks in a foundation which can only be properly fixed by accessing the exterior wall of the foundation. The experts will then perform a multi-step process to ensure that the crack is fixed, and the foundation wall is properly prepared to eliminate cracks and leaks from occurring in the future.
