Multitasking is a very important quality for the modern world, it means that you can mentally switch and focus on 1st grade words a new goal or task. It is a very useful practical skill.

Bilingualism has previously been associated with cognitive benefits, and now, in 2010, as part of the Language and Cognition program, a study was conducted on how bilingualism can improve the processes associated with multitasking among young people.
For this study, Carnegie Mellon University enrolled 88 college students, the first half of whom were fluent in math teaching resources one language and the second half in two. Both groups had roughly the same grades, eliminating the initial inequality in ability among participants.
Each participant in the study had to sit across the screen, with different tasks for the subject’s right and left hands. When certain signals and signs appeared on the screen, one hand was responsible for determining color based on the signal, and the other hand was responsible for the shape of what was displayed on the screen.
During this experiment, a group of bilinguals and those who knew the same language were assigned different tasks – the bilinguals had to perform both separate actions and switch from one to another. For the second group the task was easier – it was necessary to determine the color and shape, but it was not necessary to switch.
As the research showed, participants of the single language group were able to determine the color and shape of what they saw, but they could not switch from one to another. In the bilingual group, however, participants often switched from defining color to defining shape, which was more complicated, of course. The researchers then compared the data to draw conclusions about the speed and accuracy of the results in both groups.
It turned out that the bilinguals, despite the more complex task, coped much faster than participants in the second group, when it was necessary to switch between tasks, their reactions were 6 milliseconds faster. Surprisingly, in the first phase of the trial, when individual tasks had to be performed, the performance of both groups was almost the same.
This 2010 study contributed to the evidence that bilinguals have more control over what they do than people who speak only one language. And such evidence has been growing in recent years.
A person’s cognitive abilities include both control over tasks and the ability to switch between them. This makes it easier to make decisions, to keep emotions under control, and to plan something competently and thoughtfully.
The study fully supports the view that learning two languages contributes to better task fulfillment and control over human actions.
